Walka Talka support

Email walkatalka@wickdsmart.com and I will answer within two business days. Settings → About → Contact support in the app opens a new mail message to that same address.

Delete your account

Open Settings, tap Account, then Delete account. The app asks you to confirm and, if you signed in with Apple, to authorize with Apple first. Backing out at any point leaves the account exactly as it was.

Deleting removes your account and sign-in, your name and email address, your home location, your push tokens, your lookout connections in both directions, any invites you sent, and the feedback you sent. If you are the last member of your household, the household goes too, with its dogs, its saved places and its whole walk log. If other members remain, the household stays with them, keeping its saved places and its completed walks. The walks you took stay in its log as walks by a former member, without your name, their routes or the places they stopped at. The Privacy Policy has the full list.

If you cannot open the app, email privacy@wickdsmart.com from the address on the account and ask for it to be deleted.

Remove a lookout

Open the People tab. Under Looking out for me, tap Remove next to that person and confirm. They stop seeing your walks, including one that is happening right now, and they are not told. You never need their permission.

The same tab has the other direction. Under I'm looking out for, Stop looking out for them ends a connection you are on the watching side of.

If the removal fails, the app says so rather than showing it as done. That means your phone could not reach the server, and the person can still see your walks. Check your connection and try again.

Report a person

Everyone you can see in Walka Talka is someone you exchanged an invite with or share a household with, so reporting and removing usually go together. Remove them first from the People tab, then open Settings, tap Send feedback, choose the Report segment, and describe what happened. It reaches me directly. You can also email walkatalka@wickdsmart.com.

Accounts used to track someone covertly, or to harass someone, are terminated.

Leave a household

Open the People tab, scroll to Household, and tap Leave household. You stop seeing the shared dogs and the walk log, and your walks stop notifying the people who were in it. Anyone you look out for, and your own lookouts, are unaffected. You can create or join a household again at any time.

If you are the only person in the household, the app will not let you leave: an empty household would be left holding dogs and a walk log nobody can reach. Invite a co-owner first, or close the household by deleting your account.

Any member can remove another member from the same card. Nobody can remove the owner, who leaves by their own hand or by deleting their account.

Alerts are not arriving

Work through these in order.

  • In iOS Settings, check that notifications are allowed for Walka Talka. If the app's Settings screen says notifications are off for this app, that is what it means.
  • In the app's Settings, tap Notifications and check the per-alert switches. Turning one off stops that kind of alert for your account.
  • A lookout is alerted about walks: one starting, a check-in going unanswered, contact being lost, one ending. If nobody you look out for has walked, there is nothing to send.
  • If you are in someone's household, that person controls whether their walks notify you: it is the Notify about my walks switch beside your name in their People tab. A lookout connection is separate and is never changed by that switch.
  • Safety alerts are marked time-sensitive, so they can come through a Focus if you allow time-sensitive notifications for Walka Talka. If a Focus is filtering everything else, that is expected.
  • Push delivery is not guaranteed by anyone. Walka Talka is not an emergency service; in an emergency, call your local emergency number.

The check-in question

If you stop moving for longer than the delay set in Settings, under Check-ins, the app asks if you are OK. The question cannot be switched off; the delay is the only setting, from 2 to 60 minutes. It normally appears on the walk's Lock Screen card. When that card is not available on your phone, the question arrives as a notification instead. Answering clears it; if it does not clear, the answer did not reach the server, so answer it again from somewhere with signal.

Saved places can have their own timing, including never asking, so a long stop somewhere you meant to stop is not treated like a long stop anywhere else.

Report a bug or ask for something

Open Settings, tap Send feedback, and pick Bug, Idea or Note. It sends what you type with your account id, the email address on your account, and your app version, build, device model and OS version. It does not attach screenshots, your location or anything from your walks. Email works too; include your device model and the app version from Settings, under About.
